Ben Vine - Ontario Advocate for Team Support

My spiritual journey is a reflection of God’s goodness. I feel his constant help as I strive to develop Christ-like maturity in my attitudes, behaviours and character. As a child, I attended an Awana club from the age of four until I was seventeen. As I reflect on my experience with Awana I am encouraged by the many examples of Christian leaders who invested into my life. The scope and sequence of Awana curriculum was a great precursor to a four year online Biblical studies program through which I was challenged on the value of prayer and regular Bible reading.

I currently live just outside of Aylmer and I am a school bus driver. I might be the youngest school bus driver in history, but I love it. Through this job, I have a chance to influence a child’s day by smiling and listening to them as we drive. I think that for these kids I can reflect the love of Jesus in a very simple way. The community I live in is small and tight-knit and I appreciate the relationships that I have been able to develop here.

I became a part-time Awana Advocate in 2016. I am supported through the Advocate Program which allows me to do ministry work and gain valuable experience while raising support. In this position, I am able to use my God-given talents to administrate details and provide technical support as part of a team that is advancing discipleship ministry in Canada.

I am very excited that I have the opportunity to use my skills for God’s glory. I help with design and communication, do event administration and provide technical support. I really enjoy what I do and even as a child and then as a teen in I have done similar work for fun and experience. To have my enjoyment for administration, planning and communication tested and confirmed so that now I can feel confident in the work I have chosen, is a real blessing.

Fun Fact - I love nature, and in 2015-16 chose to sleep outdoors in a covered tent hammock for one full year.
