Cory Vail - Regional Director for Atlantic Canada
I am a clear testimony to the effectiveness of local church outreach to children and youth. I was first exposed to the Scriptures through daily vacation bible school. When I became a teenager I started attending the local church middle school youth ministry. It was there that I responded to the gospel and received Jesus as my saviour. Through my teen years, I struggled with little support from family or friends. It was the love and support of a local church family, the clear teaching of scripture, and relational accountability and discipleship, that made a clear difference in my life.
After graduation, I attended Atlantic Baptist University (Crandall) where I continued to grow in my understanding of Scripture and Christian leadership. This is also where I met and fell in love with my lovely wife Emily. Soon after graduation, I married Emily and 10 years later we have 5 wonderful boys, Eli, Theo, Amos, Barnabas, and Solomon. Our boys enjoy attending the local Awana Club where I also serve as Ministry Director and between them, we have all ages up to T&T represented. Emily has also served in multiple roles within the club.
Prior to working in full-time ministry, I had my own renovation company and also preached part-time. Through a variety of circumstances which included encouragement and mentorship from other leaders, I decided to drop my business and focus on full-time ministry. In February of 2017, I was hired as Regional Director after having served for 1 year as a part-time Advocate for Awana. I am excited about the impact Awana is having both globally and regionally. What excites me most is the clear focus on partnering with the local church to reach more kids with the Gospel through long-term relational discipleship.
My goal for Awana in Atlantic Canada is to have 25 new active Awana ministries by 2025. This would mean a consistent increase of 4 new ministries per year for 7 years with 500 more children being actively discipled. As we continue to grow I am eager to see Awana being used in traditional mid-week clubs, Sunday schools, Christian and home school groups, for community outreach, camps, for family and youth ministries, for ministry to First Nations groups, and more.
Please pray with me that the Lord would raise up workers for the harvest along with financial partners that will help us through an exciting season of growth.
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)
