Job Lee - British Columbia Advocate for Events and Ministry Resources
I started to go to Awana as a Sparky. Even though I went to the Awana club each week, I feel that right through T&T I really missed out on a lot of fun events like Awana Games and Bible Quizzing. I was a quiet kid and I wasn’t willing to step out of my comfort Zone. In grade 6 I learned Joshua 1 verse 9 which says “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, and do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This is when I learned that I could let God lead me out of my comfort zone.
In 2015, I let God lead me out of my comfort zone and I went on a short-term mission trip to Nepal with Awana. It was that summer that I decided I would like to serve alongside the Awana BC Ministry Team. I have done this through the Summer Intern Program and now through the Advocate Program.
I have to mention Awana Camp. It has been a major part of my journey with God. I have gone to Awana BC Camp ever since I was 11 years old. Every year, God used camp to help me grow in my relationship with him and with other people as well. I want to give that opportunity to future generations of children and youth.
These are the things that have brought me to Awana International Canada. Now I work with the team on many design projects and I help with events like those that I have mentioned above. There are over 95 partnered churches in British Columbia, many of which are in close proximity to each other. There are some unique opportunities for larger regional events.
I am working on a degree in user experience design in the Interactive Arts and Technology program at Simon Fraser University. It’s been great to be able to complete this while at the same time getting experience through helping the Awana team.
