Ontario has a rich history with Awana. Ontario is where Awana was first offered in Canada and was the home of the National head office for over 35 years. The men and women who started the ministry here in Ontario will be richly blessed and have reached many kids for Christ.
Ontario has one of the largest and most diverse populations in Canada. We are continually looking for people who want to serve. Whether you want to serve a specific ethnic group, in your area locally or across the whole region, we have a place for you.
Ruth Anne Crouch - Advocates for Southwestern Ontario
Kyle and I both grew up in Christian families and over the course of time grew in faith, love and commitment to Jesus Christ. We both grew up attending Awana mid-week programs and summer camp and we have both served as Awana volunteers for many years.
In 2008 Kyle and I were both volunteering at Ontario Scholarship Camp and became quick friends. We returned the next summer as an engaged couple and were married in 2009. We now have two kids with another on the way and we haven’t missed a beat. As a family, we enjoy being outside biking, hiking, doing campfires, going to the farmers market in our town and a whole list of other activities that keep us busy. We are also Sunday school leaders for grade 4&5 students at our church.
In 2016 we “officially” joined the Awana ministry as Advocates. Having children attending Awana mid-week programs, learning to live by the verses they memorize and loving camp, has given us a sincere passion for the work we do. We are a family that chooses to serve Jesus together. Chloe and Job love to come to camp each year and we love that they are growing up in this ministry. Each day our kids are a reminder of our desire to ensure that all kids have the same opportunity to know, love and serve Jesus Christ. This is the vision of Awana International Canada and it is our heart’s desire.
Kyle and I have been so fortunate to work with a great team of staff and volunteers in Ontario. These are the people that make camp possible. We love camp so much that we started something called “Camp Night”. Camp Night is a 2-hour indoor version of the Awana Ontario summer Scholarship Camp. This event is fun for the kids and church volunteers and allows us to keep the memory of camp alive all year long.
There are a number of other events that we coordinate along with our partner churches and volunteers: Sparks-A-Rama is a one day celebration for graduating Sparks, Turkey Bowl is a crazy day of games with a speaker and lesson for grade 6 to 8 students and Ministry Conferences are an opportunity for ministry leaders and youth to gather for training and workshops. We have lots of other things that we are praying about and planning for.
Awana is something special and it has impacted each of our lives on so many levels. We would love to have you partner with us financially or through prayer. Together we look forward to seeing what God will do in this ministry.
Fun fact: Kyle and Ruth Anne got married 1 day short of being together for 1 year. Their kids are fun and energetic. Their son believes that his tongue was created to be on the outside of his mouth and their daughter is hoping for a baby brother so she has a chance at getting her own room someday.
